Non-invasive deep brain stimulation therapies for neuroregeneration

چکیده
Abstract Neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease, constitute a major socioeconomic burden. As clinical prevalence dramatically increases, the need for disease-modifying therapies is pressing. In this context, regenerative medicine are considered promising strategy treatment of these patients, due to low turnover neural tissues and extensive neurodegeneration. The transplant exogenous stem cells has been demonstrated improve symptoms lead functional recovery. However, high immunogenicity cell survival limit efficacy (Duncan et al.,2017). Electrical stimulation shown modulate proliferation differentiation (NSC), thus, it holds therapeutic potential (Thrivikraman al.,2018). Although therapies, deep brain (DBS) have widely used in clinic, invasiveness approach precludes translation. Moreover, mechanisms underlying remain unknown (Lozano al.,2019). DBS via temporally interfering (TI) electric fields emerged non-invasive (Grossman However, its effect on neuroregeneration biology remains unexplored. Here, influence TI primary NSCs was investigated vitro. Transcriptome analysis using mRNA-seq carried out investigate changes gene expression following stimulation. It that induced genes involved development cellular metabolism. addition, immunostaining showed led upregulation biomarkers associated with differentiation. Taken together, our results suggest could be direct NSC fate through modulation metabolic pathways proliferation. This mechanism action partly explain benefits basis targeted strategies neurodegenerative disorders. Research Category Technology Methods Translational Research: 25. متن کاملNon-invasive Brain Stimulation for Essential Tremor
BACKGROUND There is increasing interest in the use of non-invasive brain stimulation to characterize and potentially treat essential tremor (ET). Studies have used a variety of stimulation coils, paradigms, and target locations to make these observations. We reviewed the literature to compare prior studies and to evaluate the rationale and the methods used in these studies. METHODS We perform...
متن کاملO10: Deep Brain Stimulation and Psychiatry
The use of deep brain stimulation in psychiatric disorders has received great interest owing to the small risk of the operation, the reversible nature of the technique, and the possibility of optimizing treatment postoperatively. Currently deep brain stimulation in psychiatry is investigated for obsessive-compulsive disorder, Gilles de la Tourette’s syndrome and major depression. This presentat...
متن کامل“Non-invasive” brain stimulation is not non-invasive
INTRODUCTION The functions of the healthy brain can be studied in two main ways. Firstly, the changes in the brain’s state can be measured using techniques such as EEG or functional MRI. Secondly, the activity of the brain can be disrupted through the use of brain stimulation. The famous experiments of Wilder Penfield and colleagues in the 1950s showed the power of brain stimulation in people w...
